How to Read a NIPT Test Report

When you receive your NIPT report, the medical terminology may seem confusing. This guide explains everything you need to know.

1. "Low Risk" (Negative) Result

If "Low Risk" appears next to the tested chromosomes, it means the probability of the baby having those genetic diseases is virtually zero. The accuracy of this result exceeds 99.9%.

2. "High Risk" (Positive) Result

If "High Risk" appears, it indicates a strong possibility of a chromosomal abnormality. However, NIPT is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. Confirmation via amniocentesis is required.

3. "Inconclusive" (No Call) Result

If the fetal fraction (ratio of fetal DNA in maternal blood) is below 3-4%, the device may not be able to produce a result. This doesn't mean the baby is sick. The test is repeated after 1-2 weeks.

The ratio of fetal DNA in the total free DNA in maternal blood must be at least 3-4% for a successful test.
